Welsh rugby legend Shane Williams has thanked five “amazing” Llanidloes High School pupils for raising money for the Velindre Cancer Centre.
In a video message posted on Facebook, Williams said: “You should be really proud of yourselves. All your hard work has paid off.”
In February, Rhian Jones, Josh Owen, Molly Lewis, Ffion Snape and Cerys Ball led the school’s ‘Wear Red For Wales’ day for Velindre.
The Year 10 pupils raised £645 for Velindre by selling wristbands, collecting non-uniform money and baking cakes. The cake sale alone raised almost £300.

Head of Year Emma Palfrey is Williams’ teammate with Carmarthen-based triathlon Team Cranc who are raising awareness and funds for the Velindre Cancer Centre in 2018.
She said: “Velindre is such a worthwhile cause. so when the opportunity arose to be able to do something as a school to raise some money and support the fantastic work they do, we couldn’t say no.
“The effort put into fundraising by the pupils involved was incredible and I’m an extremely proud head of year to have such thoughtful and motivated pupils in my year group.”
