A large property fire in Rhayader is now out after fire-fighters battled with the blaze for nearly four hours this afternoon.

Crews from six separate fire stations were called to attend the blaze as it ripped through Dolgerddon Hall, Dark Lane, Rhayader in the early hours of this afternoon.

The fire has destroyed the roof of the seven-bedroom property, which was previously used by the YMCA but is currently being advertised online as a private room-letting.

A statement from the fire service said:

"On Monday, 02/07/2018 at 12:36pm, crews from Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes, Builth Wells, Llanwrtyd Wells and Newtown attended a property fire in Dark Lane, Rhayader.

The roof structure of a two-floor property was destroyed by the fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, five main jets, an aerial ladder platform, two water bowsers, three thermal imaging cameras and an unmanned aerial vehicle drone.

The Fire Service received the stop message at 04:14pm"

A statement from Rhayader Town Council issued at 13:37 said: "Chair of the Council is currently liaising with emergency crews who are battling a large fire at Dolgerddon Hall, Dark Lane. We ask that people keep clear of the area for your own safety and to allow emergency crews to work."

Fire crews from Llandrindod Wells were sent to assist with the "large property fire" at 12:39 this afternoon.

Residents of Rhayader were warned water shortages could occur in the town due to firefighters tackling the incident.

A statement from Dwr Cymru said residents with postcodes beginning LD6 5 may have been experiencing low water pressure or loss of water to their homes due to the fire service drawing water. Supply should be restored later this afternoon, they say.
