Builth Fest Carnival: Circus comes to town!

Builth Wells Rotary Club was awarded the overall shield by the High Sheriff of Powys, Councillor David Price and his wife Elaine for their ‘Greatest Show in Builth’ float.

The fancy dress entrants were judged by the Builth Wells Mayor, Paul McNiffe, accompanied by Town Councillor Meryl Prynne.

Following the judging of all the floats and fancy dress entrants there was a grand procession around the town before returning to the Groe.

This year was the first time ever that Builth Fest Carnival has crowned a King, as well as a Carnival Queen.

Ceiran Prynne, was crowned the first Carnival King by the Mayor of Builth Wells. Lola Price, was crowned as 2018 Carnival Queen by last year’s Queen, Lucy Ballard.

The Royal attendants were Keisha Jenkins and Baydn Powell.

The committee hope the introduction of a King will encourage boys to apply next year.

Rachael Hughes, chairperson of Builth Fest Carnival said: “It was another successful day and we were overwhelmed with the support and effort put in by everyone despite the weather conditions.

“As we are a relatively small committee, we are very grateful for the support from people helping to organise our events and giving time on carnival day, and to every person that puts money in our buckets or buys a raffle ticket.

“We have to raise at least £8,000 every year to hold our carnival day and its week of events. We would be grateful for the continued support at our annual duck race that will be held on August Bank Holiday.”
