Oswestry riders took part in a week of fundraising as The Orchard café in Shrewsbury joined forces with cycling club Rhino Velo to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer charity.

The week culminated in three group rides in Shropshire – and a well-earned meal on the riders' return.

The café, in the shadow of Shrewsbury Cathedral, has been a favourite haunt of the club.

Manager and chef Clive Szczepanek and members of the club have lost loved ones to the disease, so the collaboration was set up with the help of Mary Edwards.

Mary organised the rides while Clive collected donations at the café and very provided a buffet lunch for the riders.

With a big turnout from the club, friends and family members, the venue was packed.

Ride leader Ron Stuart, whose father suffered from prostate cancer, said: “It has been a great success – we all enjoyed a ride in Shropshire’s beautiful countryside and had some fantastic food and hospitality.

"My father suffered with the disease and I hope the money we have raised will help to eradicate it.”

So far, the events have raised £740 and donations are still being accepted online - at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mary-edwards5 – or at the café.
