WHAT would you like to see happen in Newtown during the next five years?

Residents of the town can have their say by givig their views on Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council's plans and can also be in with a chance of winning a cash prize of over £50.

The four week consultation will run until June 6.

Town clerk, Ed Humphreys, said: "The Town Council is responsible for a range of services around the town such as maintaining the public toilets, play areas and gardens, events and tourist information.

"The Town council is moving away from one that merely deals or responds to events placed upon it by other or by natural circumstance.

"It realises that whilst the the council should learn from the past and try to deal with the present, to really make a difference to the community it must prepare for the future and plan for it.

"When making decisions, the Town Council takes the views of residents seriously."

The Council has said that by listening to the views of a survey in 2015 that led to the Newtown Community Action Plan - people who responded to the consultation highlighted the importance of green spaces around the town.

As a result of this the Town Council decided to back the Going Green for a Living, Land Trust with their successful £1.1m Big Lottery bid to enhance and maintain the green spaces.

The Council say it also took on board views from a recent survey carried out by Aberystwyth University in which people highlighted the importance of cleaning up and improving the appearance of the town."

Due to this the Council is no considering taking over town centre cleaning from Powys County Council.

The Council want to hear your views on:

  • Town Centre
  • Green Spaces and the Environment
  • Residential Areas
  • Visitors and marketing
  • Young People
  • heritage
  • Culture, Arts and Events
  • After the By-pass

Mr Humphreys, added: "The feedback will be used to he[p put together a final version of the plan."
