A lorry has been recovered after it colliding with a bridge and overturned on Llanidloes Road in Newtown.

The road was closed for around five hours and has now reopened.

Recovery teams have been working to safely recover the overturned lorry after it had become stuck underneath the railway bridge.

The driver of the lorry was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was taken to hospital.

Queues of traffic stretched as far as Pool Road, Milford Road, Kerry Road and Dolfor Road at rush hour this morning.

The traffic affected routes between Caersws and Newtown.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 7.30am this morning to reports a lorry had struck a bridge on Llanidloes Road in Newtown.

"We sent an emergency ambulance to the scene, where the crew treated a male with minor injuries.

"The patient later made his own way to hospital."

Dyfed-Powys Police said they were called to an incident of a lorry colliding with a railway bridge at 7.31am.

At 9.01am, a recovery team was present to upright the vehicle and clean the road of any debris.
