SNOW has fallen across most of Mid Wales as the so-called "Mini Beast from the East" struck, causing events to be cancelled and some travel disruption.

Up to 10cm (4in) of snow had been forecast for many areas, but high ground could see 15-25cms (six to 10 inches).

The amber "be prepared" warning which the Met Office issued for Mid Wales has now been downgraded to a yellow "be aware" of snow and ice. This is in force until 11.55pm and the Met Office has issued another yellow warning for ice from 12.05am to 10am on Monday.

Three schools have already been closed ahead of tomorrow (Monday) – Leighton CP School, Brynllywarch Hall School and Cradoc CP School –according to the Powys County Council website (http://www.powys.gov.uk).

The council's gritters will cover all primary routes in Powys on March 18 from 7.30pm, and again on March 19 at 4am.

Traffic Wales reports the A44 is closed in both directions from Aberystwyth to Llangurig due to snow and that poor driving conditions due to the snow are causing problems on the A470 westbound from Caersws to Cemmaes Road.
