When asked what makes a marriage last 60 years, Brenda and Sid Jones from Trefonen said: "Actually liking each other!"

Eighty-two-year old Brenda and Sid, 81, celebrated their Diamond wedding anniversary on February 27, with a party in the village surrounded by their friends and family.

The pair met when Sid, from Oswestry was 16-years-old, when he began working at a menswear shop in Beatrice Street. Across the road, Brenda, from Morda was working in a shoe shop, and Sid said: "I saw a young lass, and I quite liked the look of her."

Brenda was named Miss Morda when she was 17, as well as being made Coronation Queen in 1953.

The pair got engaged under a lamppost in Morda, and after Sid spent three years in the RAF, they married in Oswestry Methodist Church in 1958.

They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Lorrain in 1961, before moving to Newmarket in Suffolk.

Brenda said: "We spent four years in Newmarket, and absolutely loved it there. We are still in contact with a lot of friends from the area, and speak to them every Saturday morning."

The family then moved to Manchester where they welcomed their son Nicholas in 1967.

After moving around between Newmarket, Halifax, Rugby and Lincoln, all thanks to Sid being promoted throughout his job, the couple finally moved back to the Oswestry area, settling in Trefonen in 1990.

Sid spent time as a milkman, before the pair both worked at Regents Court for 10 years, when Sid retired at age 70.

But retirement hasn't stopped the pair, as Brenda was recently made president of the Jubilee Club at Trefonen Village Hall.

The couple have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who all celebrated with them at their Diamond Wedding party.

"We had a great day," said Sid.

"We had family and friends from all the places we have lived attend, and even though there was horrible weather it didn't stop them from making an effort.

"We have received 58 anniversary cards - we just needed two more to match the number of years we've been married!"

And the couple's secret to a long marriage - "We like one another!" Said Brenda.

"We are best friends and we have been very lucky to have such a wonderful life together."
