Inspired by the theme of 'Random Acts of Kindness' for its Christmas SOUP party, the Llandrindod SOUP team decided to widen the competition via its Facebook group and asked residents for their suggestions for an act of kindness which would benefit the local area.

The theme was quickly embraced by the town and proved that Llandrindod is bursting with creative ideas to boost and support the community. Nine ideas were submitted, which ranged from leaving bunches of flowers around town to the purchase of a community fridge.

Hundreds of votes were cast and the eventual winner was Sally Owen, who plans to use her winnings of £100 donated by Arvon Ales, to look into commissioning a lamp powered by a biodigester which runs on dog poo. In second place were the residents of Tremont Park, led by Helen Dudley and Hayley James, who won £70 donated by Steve Horwood of Love Sound, to buy flowers and shrubs to improve the public spaces in the area.

Steve Horwood, of Love Sound, Llandrindod Wells who donated £70 after attending the last SOUP party, said he “wanted to contribute to the wonderful community spirit of Llandrindod Wells”.

Llandrindod SOUP is a micro funding event, bringing together local people to support projects and people that improve our community. The next Llandrindod SOUP party takes place on Friday, April 20, at 7pm at the Herb Garden Cafe in Llandrindod Wells.
