As Oswestry Senior Citizens club is celebrating its 50th year, the club want to remind the people of the town of the great facilities the club has to offer.

The club opened in 1968 as the 'Old Folks Club' but changed its name to Oswestry Senior Citizens Club.

Gareth Jones, the chairman of the club said: "You do not have to be a senior citizen to be a member – age is not a barrier.

"All the present members are young in head and love meeting up with old and new friends. The club is here to provide friendship and companionship for the citizens of Oswestry."

The club organise bingo on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, days out both short and long, as well as two holidays a year. There are also dances and entertainment once a month and an annual dinner dance.

"We need more members to come forward and help in the organisation and maintenance of the club for the future citizens of Oswestry," continued Mr Jones.

"Why not come along and meet us on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays at 6pm at the club in Lorne Street, so that we can introduce you to the members and meet the club officially.

"So come along and let us make plans for the future of this facility for the future generations."
