ALTHOUGH the snow spoilt the St David’s Day celebrations planned for Newtown this year, legendary Welsh folk rock singer, Dafydd Iwan will return to perform in the town.

His gig had to be cancelled on Friday, March 2, and this has been re-arranged for April

The Morrisons store, that had donated hundreds of Welsh cakes for the procession, has now shared them out between Bethshan residential home and Newtown Hospital.

Newtopia was also announced as the winner of the window dressing competition.

Nia Llywelyn, of Menter Iaith Maldwyn, said: “Although events to celebrate St David’s Day were cancelled in Newtown because of the weather conditions Dafydd Iwan’s concert will still go ahead at the Monty Club on Friday, April 6.

“We would like to thank everyone who competed and everybody who has been supportive in events leading up to the cancelled celebrations.

“The St David’s daffodils, created by the Knit and Natter group, are available in Newtown, The Tea Rooms in Caersws and Blodyn Tatws in Machynlleth with all proceeds going towards Marie Curie.

“We’re all set for next year already fingers crossed for no snow!”

The concert will start at 8pm with tickets costing £5 each. Supporting Dafydd Iwan and band will be the popular folk group Hen Fegin.
