WE ARE all feminists now.

That was the call from Machynlleth as a group of both women and men celebrated International Women’s Day last week.

The day fell on Thursday, March 8, but to make more of an impact in the town, the Mach Suffrage group, decided to hold their own celebration on Wednesday, March 7, the traditional market day in Machynlleth.

Organiser Elena Blackmore said: “A good number of people turned up, many had put a lot of effort into their costumes, both women and men.

“It was really important to get men to the event as they need to recognise the need for gender equality and understand the message.”

In the UK, a new awareness of feminism has emerged with celebrations of 100 anniversary since some sections of women were given he right to vote.
