It started as a small textile exhibition in Llanidloes but this week, World Textiles Day is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Crowds of textile enthusiasts from across Wales and beyond will descend on The Minerva Centre in Llanidloes for a one day feast of World Textiles.

In recognition of the teamwork that goes into making the event such a success, this year's theme is 'Working Together'.

Organisers Diane Gaffney of Textile Traders in Bishop's Castle and Magie Relph of The African Fabric Shop say the theme reflects the teamwork between the organisers and their group of world textile experts and friends.

Visitors can come along and listen to talks, browse the stalls and exhibition, and take the opportunity to buy textiles from around the world.

This year's guest speakers include well-known textile collectors and authors Susan Briscoe, John Gillow and Martin Conlan.

Since 2008, the event has expanded to six other locations across the UK.

Diane Gaffney said: “It’s fantastic to be back. The Minerva Centre is a lovely space and the people are great.

"Every fabric on show is handmade and each one has a story, culture and personal history which is very special"

World Textile Day is celebrating the milestone with special events on Saturday March 17.
