ALL SCHOOLS across Powys remained closed this morning as Storm Emma blew in.

The amber "be prepared" weather warning for Wales has now ended, but we're not out of it yet – the whole of Wales is now covered by a yellow "be aware" warning for snow, ice and wind.

It was a freezing night across Wales, with the lowest temperatures recorded at -5 in Sennybridge and Lake Vyrnwy.

Traffic Wales reports that the A458 Welshpool to Mallwyd road is closed "due to adverse weather" as is the A483 Newtown to Crossgates road.

The A470 Caersws to Pontdolgoch is closed due to "obstruction". The A44 Llangurig to Aberystwyth Road is shut due to the weather and a tree is blocking the A487 Talybont to Glandyfi Road.

The gritters have been out all over Powys overnight trying to clear the roads.

Meanwhile, TV presenter Iolo Williams has tweeted: "Please remember to feed the birds during this extremely cold weather. Millions are dependant on the fat balls, seeds, peanuts and mealworms we put out for them. They bring so much joy to so many, now’s the time to pay them back. Diolch/Thanks."
