WELSHPOOL Town council will be considering looking at installing CCTV at Maes-y-Dre in response to litter louts leaving rubbish and broken bottles in the stand and on the football pitch last weekend.

Officials from Welshpool FC were shocked to find the rubbish strewn in the grandstand and on the pitch as they prepared for their game.

Committee member Dean Gill posted pictures on Facebook and said: "Just a few pictures from this morning just to make people aware of what we have to put up with from week to week and worse than anything what you can't see is many many bits of broken glass on the grass."

On the social media site many sympathised with the club for having to deal with the situation and felt that more police patrols were the answer.

Welshpool Town Council clerk, Robert Robinson, said: "The Town Services Team have been cleaning the stand most days and in particular on a Friday afternoon ready for Saturday.

"Sadly some people feel the urge to drop litter and break bottles both in the stand and on the pitch.

"Recently the Council has installed two new bins by the stand and is considering CCTV at its meeting on February 28.

"If approved this will be installed with all speed. From this Friday I have agreed with the Town Services Team will also call an clean the stand first thing on a Saturday morning."
