An elderly man has been left shaken after distraction burglars stole cash from his home in Glan Conwy.

Three men claiming to be from the Water Board entered the pensioner's home at about 5.15pm on Friday, February 9.

They stole a quantity of cash before making away from the property on foot.

While no force was used the offenders used deception to trick the victim who has been left shaken by the ordeal and is now being supported by family members.

One of the offenders is described as a white man, about 40 years old, with an Irish accent, wearing a black bobble hat, dark clothing and blue jeans.

Detective Inspector Simon Kneale of Central CID said: "This is an abhorrent crime, targeting an elderly male.

"I would like to reiterate that under no circumstances should residents allow anyone into their homes unless they are 100% sure that they are legitimate.

"Workers from the council and any utility company will carry identification, which should contain a phone number for verification. Any genuine contractor will not mind waiting outside while you seek verification.

"We are progressing with the investigation and local police patrols have been stepped up in the area.

"I would ask residents to be mindful of personal security and ensure that windows and doors are secure. If you feel a person is acting suspiciously in the area please contact the police immediately.”

Police are appealing for witnesses or if anyone has any information to call 101, quoting reference RC18016398.
