Montgomeryshire T20 Knockout

WELSHPOOL and Newtown will renew old rivalries in the final of the Montgomeryshire T20 Knock out later this summer.

The tournament’s semi-finals were played at Welshpool’s Maesydre ground on Sunday when the hosts overcame Alberbury and favourites Newtown beat Montgomery.

A confident Monty started well, including knocks from Aaron Ruff-Cock (25), Andrew Barker (20) and James Corfield (20) before suffering a collapse as Ally Laird (3-23), Dave Anthony (2-24), Sam Cooke (2-13), Hamish Harding (2-24) and John Anthony (1-11) struck to see off their rivals for 94.

Newtown went about their task purposefully, reaching their target inside 12 overs with Harding (20) laying foundations before Ryan Davies (46no) was joined by Cooke (15no) in finishing the task.

The second game of the day proved to be a cracking affair between Henshalls Shropshire League One rivals Alberbury and Welshpool.

Alberbury set about the Welshpool attack from the very beginning and posted an imposing 174 to defend.

Welshpool’s reply was based on Matthew Knight (30) and Patrick Davies (76) before contributions from Tom Anderson, Adam Knight and wily veteran Russell Cadwallader secured victory in the 19th over.
