NEWTOWN returned to winning ways with a three wicket win at St Georges in the Henshalls Premier Shropshire League.

The Anthony brothers starred with six wickets between the pair helping restrict the Saints to 188 to chase with Ryan Davies starring with a top scoring 74no to guide Town to glory in reply.

Newtown enjoyed a dream start with Ally Laird (1-41) bowling Chris Miller for a duck before fellow opener Gareth Hughes was snared LBW for one by Dave Anthony.

The hosts kick started their innings with a 49 run third wicket partnership before Anthony struck again with Muhammed Zaheer caught by Sam Cooke for 26.

Marshall Bunting was joined by Sam Morgan in a 21 run fourth wicket partnership before being snared LBW by John Anthony for 50.

A middle order wobble proceeded as Ben Miller was run out by Jack Morris for two before John Anthony completed his 2-33 with Chris Waldron caught by Cooke for five.

Jonathan Davies (1-47) trapped Azzad Rafiq LBW for six to leave St Georges on 107-7.

However Morgan was joined by Neil Davies in a defiant eighth wicket stand, adding 71 runs to the scoreboard before Dave Anthony snared the latter LBW for 28.

Anthony completed his 4-43 by bowling Ben Byram for a duck before Hamish Harding (1-6) dismissed Joe Buttery for six to leave Morgan (55no) and Newtown chasing a target of 188.

Despite the cheap loss of opener Steve Davies, caught by Morgan off Miller for seven, a 65 run second wicket stand between Tom Goodman and Harding laid the foundations of Town’s reply.

Harding was trapped LBW by Davies for 26, bringing together Goodman and Ryan Davies in a 33 run third wicket partnership.

The pair guided Newtown to 107 when Goodman was caught by Morgan off Davies (2-42) for 54, leaving Ryan Davies to lead the visitors challenge.

Davies was joined by Jack Morris in a crucial 59 run fifth wicket stand to guide Town to 179 when the latter was trapped by Bunting for a supporting knock of 13.

Bunting (2-31) and Ben Miller (2-42) both claimed wickets bit could not prevent the inevitable as star man Davies (74no) guided Newtown over the line in the 48th over.
