NEWTOWN will be spearheaded by a newlook attack next season.

Nick Rushton has agreed to a permanent switch from Dafabet Welsh Premier rivals Gap Connahs Quay following a successful loan spell while Jamie Reed has arrived from Bangor City.

The duo join defender Sam Litchfield and winger James Murphy in committing to the Robins following the departure of five players from last season’s squad.

Manager Chris Hughes was delighted with his new signings with the arrival of Rushton following two loan spells also welcomed by fans of the club following his impact last season.

Hughes said: “He was one of our main targets after what he did for us last season, his goals played a huge part in getting us into the play-offs.

“Nick along with other signings gave the place a lift, and his performances in the second half of the season were exceptional.

“He fits in well here, he was well liked after his first loan spell and we’re delighted to have secured his signature for the coming season.”

Reed will look to make a home for himself at Latham Park following a nomadic career having played for more than 10 clubs since his release from Wrexham a decade ago.

The 29 year old has had spells at Glentoran, Colwyn Bay, Aberystwyth Town, Tamworth, Rhyl, Bangor City, Dandenong Thunder, York City, Cambridge United, Chester, South Melbourne, TNS and Llandudno.

Hughes said: “We're over the moon to get Jamie, we've been after him for a couple of years, he's a proven goal scorer and that is just what we were looking for.”

Hughes also backed Reed to fill the boots of the departed Jason Oswell who won the league golden boot last season before switching to National League North side Stockport earlier this month.

“A lot of the time you are judged on your centre forwards, we've just lost a good striker, but now we've gained Nick and Jamie who, along with the other lads we've got, provides some really good attacking options.”
