Henshalls Shrop Division One

Welshpool 108 all out lost to

Beacon 154 all out by 46 runs

WELSHPOOL paid the price for their poor batting performance as Beacon strolled to a 46 run victory at Maesydre in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

Beacon lost two early wickets cheaply as opener Yuri Pugh was run out by Joe Monk for six before Matt McWhinnie snared Jakob Woodhouse LBW for a duck.

Alan Mines was joined by David Howarth in a 29 run third wicket stand before departing to Tom Anderson (1-29).

Howarth led the middle order, forming a 21 run partnership with Jamie Martindale before the latter was caught by Roger Knight off Alan Williams for 10.

Howarth continued to lead Beacon with a 26 run fifth wicket stand alongside Lee Pickford before the latter was caught by Matthew Knight off Williams for 13.

Williams finally got his man by completing his 3-30 with the wicket of Howarth for 49 before Rob Anderson (1-31) bowled Dave Clarke (3) to leave Beacon on 105-7

McWhinnie (2-29) removed Mike Turner for 25 before Rob Pengelly (2-32) polished off the tail end resistance led by Matty Cliffe (18) to leave Beacon to defend 154.

Pool’s reply began poorly with openers Roger Knight and Joe Monk both dismissed cheaply by Martindale (2-32).

Matthew Knight and Tom Anderson looked to ignite the innings with a 27 run third wicket stand before Knight was caught by Turner off Carl Williams for 29.

Anderson and Adam Knight came together to add 42 for the fourth wicket before Anderson was caught by Turner off Williams for 22.

Knight’s departure to Woodhouse (4-14) for 26 sparked a middle order and tail end collapse as Pool went from 93-5 to being bowled out for 108 in the 25th over as Cliffe (2-12) and Woodhouse dominated.
