NEWTOWN endured a day to forget as Ludlow ran out overwhelming nine wicket winners at the Recreation Ground.

Tom Goodman was caught and bowled by Ruel Brathwaite for five before Hamish Harding was caught for a duck by Gareth Parker off Danny Bradley (1-32) as Newtown stuttered early on.

Surviving opener Steve Davies was joined by Ryan Davies in a 20 run stand for the third wicket before departing for 29, snared LBW by Braithwaite (2-29).

Will Sparrow (2-24) reduced Newtown to 67-5 as Sam Cooke was trapped LBW for two before Jack Morris departed for 10.

Davies was joined by Dai Brown in a 32 run sixth wicket stand before the latter was caught by Louis Watkins off Luke Miles for 11 with Tom Foulkes soon sent back to the pavilion, bowled for a duck by Miles (2-32).

Davies (69no) was joined by Ally Laird (60no) for the eighth wicket with the pair digging in to form an unbroken 107 run partnership to steer their side to 208-7 to defend.

Ludlow set the tone for their reply with a 77 run opening wicket partnership between Sam Edwards and Keanu Cooper before the latter was caught by Jack Morris off Dave Anthony (1-39) for 52.

However Edwards carried his bat for the visitors with a supporting knock of 56 as Jack Griffiths (66no) guided Ludlow to 214-1 and glory in the 35th over.
