ALBERBURY fell just short at home to high flying Cound who celebrated a three wicket victory at Pecknall Farm in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

The home innings was built on a second wicket partnership between Mike Crawshaw and Mark Jones as the club stalwarts gave a showcase of their prowess.

Crawshaw carried his bat in a superb innings was joined by Jones following the departure of fellow opener Lara Jones, caught by Henry Cooper off Adam Williams (1-25) for a duck.

Jones senior joined Crawshaw in a magnificent 188 run second wicket partnership, including 10 fours and two sixes before being caught by Jack Case off Ryan Ashton for 71.

Ashton (4-52) tore through the middle order with ease as Alberbury went from 203-2 to 221-5.

However Craswshaw was not to be dislodged and would carry his bat with a knock of 121 including 18 fours and two sixes to guide the hosts to 242-5 to defend.

Cound lost opener Graham Trow cheaply in reply, caught by Crawshaw off Tom Haigh (1-40) for 13 while James Harrap celebrated his first wicket of the day with Jack Case caught by Dan Leach for 18.

However surviving opener Farrell Waters pinned together the Cound innings and joined by middle order knocks from Ashton (30) and Craig Kinsey (23) before falling to Harrap (4-47) for a top scoring 65.

Cooper looked to pick up the baton for Cound and succeeded in steering his side toward their target before being caught by Crawshaw off Sam Morris (1-47) for 40.

It was left to Adam Williams (16no) and Callum Marsh (4no) to complete Cound’s victory, guiding their side to 246-7 and glory in the final over.
