BISHOPS Castle’s testing start to the second division season continued with a four wicket defeat at Wheaton Aston.

Ben Marston (2-25) and Alex Curtiss (1-23) accounted for Castle’s top order cheaply and it was left to Richard Fifield and Andrew Lewis to revive the innings.

The pair formed an impressive third wicket stand before the latter was bowled by Tom Smith for a supporting knock of 48.

Smith (2-47) and Jason Corr (2-28) ensured Fifield (71no) unable to form further lasting partnerships as Castle were left to defend 183-7.

In comparison the Aston reply was founded on an impressive top order with opener Nathan Whittingham joined by Will Curtiss in a solid opening wicket stand.

Captain Tom Moulder (3-39) celebrated both wickets with Curtiss caught for 24 and Whittingham departing for 57 before completing his haul with Corr caught by Lewis for 24.

Ben Courtis kept the scoreboard ticking alongside Alex Curtiss (17) )and Stuart Chick (10) before departing to Jack Purkis (2-14) for 23 to leave Chris Evans (7no) to guide Aston to 184-6 and victory in the 38th over.
