PUPILS from Ysgol Pontrobert have raised £556 by filling sweet tubes with 20ps to support a charity that has helped a past pupil battling with cancer.

16-year-old Bryn Jones and his family from Pontrobert are being supported by the Harry Johnson Trust.

Harry Johnson passed away from Double Hit Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in July 2014, aged seven.

The trust was   established in his name in Autumn 2014, using donations from friends and family.

The trust has gone on to help Bryn whose mother, Carol Jones, leads the school’s breakfast club.

Ms Jones said: “The trust has done so much, they are helping everybody wherever they can.

“They do everything, even the little things like providing Easter eggs. They are also buying play equipment for Telford Hospital.”

The pupils from the small school responded emphatically to the fundraising call.

Headteacher Catherine Parry said: “Carol does so much for the school.

“She’s one of those who just does everything and helps out wherever she can for the school.

“We came up with the idea of raising money by giving each of the pupils a sweets tube to fill with 20ps.

“Each and every single child has done it.

“Some children brought in four or five tubes, one pupil brought in about £14.

“They are very good with community events and helping out in ways such as this.”

The money will go towards the trust’s work which includes providing helpful hampers to families with a child that has been diagnosed with cancer.

Ms Jones has shown her thanks to the school for their support.

She said: “For such a small school they are really good at coming together, it is like a family.

“Everyone gets involved.

“I have been doing the breakfast club for a few years and I just want to thank the school and all the children.

“The support from the pupils and staff has been brilliant.”

The trust also provides specialised pillows, fun  vouchers, special gifts and specialised holidays for families that need personal time together away from it all.
