COSTA Coffee has its sights set on Newtown with plans to be in the Angel Inn on High Street by Autumn.

Planning applications have been placed to install signage on the property and the national coffee chain is looking to bring up to 10 jobs to the town.

A spokesperson from Costa said: “Costa, the nation’s favourite coffee shop brand, is pleased to confirm that our brand new store in Newtown, will be opening in the Autumn, bringing eight to 10 new jobs to the local area.

“The store will be run by one of our franchise partners, Larentia, a local business to the area who are looking forward to integrating the new store with the local community, and are looking forward to getting involved with events; providing the store as a meeting place and helping with fundraising.”

Despite showing confidence that the store will be coming to the town, the planning applications will need to be approved by Powys County Council Planning department before any works can go ahead.

Newly elected Mayor of Newtown, Councillor Sue Newham, said: “As Mayor, I welcome new businesses which keep shops in the town open, provide local employment and provide goods and services to Newtown residents and visitors.”

If the cafe comes to the town it will be competing with another national chain as Greggs bakery opened across the road in September 2015.
