MORE than 2,000 people converged on Maesllwyni, Penegoes near Machynlleth, last weekend for the 2017 Montgomery Young Farmers Club Rally and Dance.

Members from across the federation came together to compete in more than 40 competitive classes which included singing and dancing, digger challenges and wool handling.

Berriew were crowned the overall winners having had great success in cattle stock judging, flower arranging, cookery and craft.

Dyffryn Tanat were a very close second having received trophies for their scrap book and for gaining the highest number of points in the fun section.

Bro Ddyfi were third, they won the woodwork competition and were awarded the NFU Mutual trophy for the best promotional sign.

In fourth were Sarn, overall having gained the highest number of points in both in the stock judging and agricultural section, they also won the dance competition.

Dyffryn Banw were awarded the Helen Evans memorial shield for their progression within the Rally competitions having won highest number of points in the junior section which included the generation game and the obstacle course. Other results included Dolfor winning the federation display and Alwyn Morris, of Dyffryn Tanat, winning the Shearing competition.

The competitions concluded with three categories of the Tug of War competition; Trefeglwys won the junior section, Dyffryn Tanat won the female section and Dolfor won the male competition.

Congratulations are sent to all competing members for their success and organisers are wishing the best of luck to those going through to the next round of competitions.
