Holywell Town 2

Llanfair United 1

LLANFAIR United’s fate will now be decided at the end of the season after defeat at Holywell Town cemented their place in the relegation zone.

United will look to end their season on a high against Guilsfield on Saturday knowing victory would seal 13th place but still need one of the league’s three feeder divisions to fail to provide a promoted club.

United arrived at Halkyn Road with a large following who were left incensed when James Davies rounded goalkeeper Jon Rushton only for his shot to be blocked on the line, amid appeals for handball.

Holywell made the most of their reprieve when a swift counter led to their breakthrough on 36 minutes with Steve Thomas on target.

Llanfair’s mission became all the more difficult a minute into the second-half when  Jamie McDaid doubled the Wellmen’s lead as the visitors were punished.

However United were galvanised and took the game to their hosts for the remainder of the contest.

James Davies was left frustrated once again on the hour when his strike which reduced the arrears was controversially adjudged offisde before getting back in the game seven minutes later as Ryan Davies headed home.

United tired as the game progressed as their midweek exploits took their toll and Holywell saw out the game to leave the Mid Wales side facing an uncertain end of season.
