WELSHPOOL secured a 33-19 victory at home to Flint in division three east of the North Wales League.

In the only match in the division of the weekend, the hosts led when full-back Gareth Jones went over for a try, converted by the returning Andrew Thomas.

Despite spurning two penalty attempts the Deesiders replied when Mitch Martin’s try was converted by Sam Parry.

Pool regained their composure and restored their advantage as Ryan Goodwin crossed the whitewash with Thomas converting the extras.

However the hosts failed to make the most of their dominance with a second try from Martin, converted by Parry, levelling the contest by half-time.

Welshpool turned the screw after the break with tries from Paul Davies, Harry Trow and captain Joe Stranks converted by Thomas ensuring a late response from Flint proved to be a meagre consolation.

Elsewhere Machynlleth’s trip to Rhos was postponed.

Meanwhile Llanidloes went down 36-14 at Dolgellau in division two.

Henri Roberts starred for the hosts, crossing for a hat-trick of tries as Dolgellau maintained their promotion bid.

The hosts led through Gerwyn Pugh’s breakaway try, converted by Roberts who would also convert their second try after Dylan Evans powered over.

Dolgellau extended their lead yet further when wing Danny Evans added a third try before Roberts crossed for his first try, which he converted, to establish a commanding 26 point interval lead.

Roberts added his second of the day early in the second-half before Llanidloes reduced the arrears when full-back Dafydd Duggan went over for a try, converted by Adam Price.

Roberts completed his hat-trick and a personal haul of 21 points with Dolgellau’s final try before Llanidloes consoled themselves with a try from Gareth Anwyl, converted by Price, for the final say.
