The New Saints 2

Carmarthen Town 0

TNS set a new record with a comfortable home win over Carmarthen Town on Saturday.

The Saints latest victory increased their season haul to a staggering 79 points, the highest of any club since the 12 club format was launched in 2010.

Victory also saw the Oswestry side return to form following their midweek defeat at Gap Connahs Quay while avenging their first defeat of the season at the hands of Carmarthen earlier in the campaign.

It took the hosts just 95 seconds to take the lead when Connell Rawlinson fed Ryan Brobbel on the left and he darted into the box to let off a left footed effort from a tight angle.

TNS almost doubled their lead on 20 minutes when Greg Draper picked up a loose ball before he found Adrian Cieslewicz but his effort rebounded off the bar before his follow up effort was cleared off the line.

On 32 minutes the Saints did double their lead with patient build-up from the back when Paul Harrison found Steve Spender, who in turn found Jamie Mullan who released to Cieslewicz to net from the edge of the area.

The visitors made a rare foray up the pitch on 36 minutes when Kieran Lewis’s right wing corner eventually fell to Dave Vincent but Harrison was equal to his header.

On 40 minutes Christian Seargeant nearly made it three for TNS only for goalkeeper Lee Idzi to parry his shot with Draper contriving to blaze over the rebound

The next serious chance came Carmarthen’s way on the hour when Lewis’ free-kick from 25 yards was held by Harrison while three minutes later Idzi did well to claw away Seargeant’s free-kick.

Carmarthen went close on 75 minutes when an aerial ball from Lewis found its way to Declan Carroll who sent his header wide.

The final chance of note came for TNS three minutes from time when a low through ball on the left found sub Wes Fletcher, but his effort was saved by the busy Idzi.

However the Saints day was marred by a late injury to Wes Fletcher but the 10 men comfortably saw out the few remaining minutes to ensure themselves back to winning ways ahead of their Welsh Cup semi-final this weekend.

TNS: Harrison, Spender, Routledge, Seargeant, Brobbel, Draper, Mullan, Saunders, Rawlinson, Cieslewicz, Jones. Subs: Fletcher, Darlington, Quigley, Wycherley, Leca, Edwards, Farleigh.
