Swalec One West Central
Builth Wells 15
Ammanford 27
BUILTH Wells slumped at home to Ammanford as their relegation battle in Swalec Division One West Central deepened.
The Bulls never recovered from a nightmare opening spell and despite an improved second-half display the visitors always remained ahead to claim a bonus point win.
Coach Nick Howells conceded his side faced an uphill battle to survive and would not with a repeat of Saturday’s performance in any of their remaining games.
Ammanford enjoyed a dream start with tries from Ceri Rees and Steffan Pryce-Griffiths with Rees adding a conversion.
Builth reduced the arrears with a penalty from Steve Podge but their fightback hopes were undermined by an error strewn display which also culiminated in Ben Pugh being sin binned just before the break.
Despite their numerical disadvantage the Bulls were back in the game at the start of the second-half with Steve Boore charging over for a close range try, converted by Podge.
However poor tackling at the other end allowed Ammanford to re-affirm their lead with Andrew Owens crossing for a try.
Pryce-Griffiths added his second try of the day to put the result to bed and despite Builth rallying through a second try from Boore it was too late to prevent themselves crashing to defeat.
Ammanford added late salt to the hosts wounds with a fifth try as Alex Davies crossed the whitewash to leave Builth one step closer to the trap door.
