Gap Connahs Quay 2

TNS 1

DECLAN Poole’s stunning volley completed Gap Connahs Quay’s comeback while sentencing TNS to only their second league defeat of the season on Tuesday night.

The clash was a dress rehearsal for next month’s JD Welsh Cup semi-final when the sides will meet for the fifth time this season before a final league meeting at Park Hall the week later.

Having won each of their previous meetings this season the Saints were expected to maintain their dominance but instead the Deesiders began the game on top.

Ryan Wignall and Nathan Woolfe both fired wide before George Horan headed over following a corner.

However it was TNS who led on 33 minutes with youngster James Jones rifling home after the hosts failed to clear Ryan Brobbel’s corner.

Ex-TNS favourite Mike Wilde went close to marking his 250th Welsh Premier appearance with two missed chances at the start of the second-half.

TNS became ruffled as Jon Seargeant and Scott Quigley were both booked in quick succession for dissent and Connahs Quay capitalised with a 75th minute cross from Poole steered home by John Disney.

Connahs Quay dominated the final stages and just five minutes after equalising were ahead when Poole volleyed home via the underside of the bar with the Deesiders holding firm for victory.

TNS: Harrison, Pryce, Leca, Saunders, Jones, Edwards, Routledge, Brobbel, Darlington, Fletcher, Quigley. Subs: Wycherley, Farleigh, Spender, Seargeant, Cieslewicz, Mullan, Draper
