HARDWARE retailer Screwfix is to officially open its new Newtown store on February 18.

The new branch on Pool Road is creating 13 jobs and is part of the company’s ongoing expansion plans.

Screwfix’s new Newtown store manager, Rich Rollinson, said he is proud of the contribution the new store is making to local employment.

Tradesmen and DIYers are also invited to attend the store’s opening when they can also demonstrate their professional skills in a free-to-enter screw drilling competition to win a 40-inch smart TV.

Mr Rollinson said: “We’ve created 13 brand new vacancies and have employed local people from around the Newtown area.

“Our new team includes people of all ages and levels of experience, but the most important requirement is that they have the right attitude and can offer superb customer service. Everyone here is really looking forward to the store opening.”

Throughout the store’s launch celebration period, from February 18 through until February 21, all product ranges will carry a 10 per cent discount among other store specific special offers.

Mr Rollinson also believes the store’s location and the ability to provide a ‘Click and Collect’ service within just five minutes of ordering will be a bonus to local tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts.

“I’m confident that we’ve got a great location here in Newtown,” he added.

Screwfix is part of Kingfisher plc, an international home improvement company which operates nearly 1,200 stores in 10 countries in Europe.

Its main brands are B&Q, Castorama, Brico Depot and Screwfix.
