IDENTICAL twins born 10 minutes apart wowed millions of television viewers and celebrity judges when they were one of the acts to make it through to the second stage of Britain’s Got Talent.

Proving the town really has got talent Stuart and Gareth Jones, of Newtown, performed on the Saturday night prime time television show watched by a predicted 12 million people and were put through to the next round despite being rejected by Simon Cowell.

Stuart runs Stuart Jones Pianos Sales, on the Mochdre Industrial estate, Newtown, and his brother, Gareth, is a local music teacher. They both enjoyed the experience of showcasing their music to the nation.

“Researchers for the show found videos of me and my twin brother performing on Youtube,” said Stuart, “We were invited to an audition at the Hafren and after going through the application hoops we got to the live auditions.

“Me and my brother have played together for a long time and always performed together over the years. We really enjoy it, we don’t rehearse a lot and it is more of a spur of the moment thing.”

On the television show the brothers walked out to huge applause in front of a packed 2,000-seater audience at the Birmingham Hippodrome watched by judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

Stuart played the piano and Gareth the trombone.

After introducing themselves and sharing a joke with David Walliams the pair began their performance and despite getting an early buzzer from “Mr Nasty” Simon Cowell, the duo were cheered on by the huge crowd who clapped along with the music.

Eventually, the pair received three yes votes from the remaining judges to the dismay of Mr Cowell who said to David Walliams: “We pay you millions.”

They were put through to the final 200 contestants, but did not make it to the live semi-final stage as the list was narrowed down to 40.

Stuart added: “We went to the auditions in Birmingham and walked out in front of 2,000 people, which was a real adrenaline buzz.

“The judges really liked us and we were given three yeses, apart from Simon who pressed his buzzer.

“We don’t know whether we have got through yet to the next round so we will have to wait and see, but we have really enjoyed the experience so far.”
