TRIBUTES have been paid to an award winning Kerry Hill sheep showman who has died. Richard Powell, of Broniarth View, in Guilsfield, was well known for his success in the show ring during a career which spanned more than 64 years with him competing at agricultural shows the length and breadth of Britain. Over the years he has won the supreme championship at the Royal Welsh Show five times and has seen his name put on a trophy 23 times at the Royal English Show, at Stoneleigh. The Kerry Hill Society honoured him and his wife, Rosina, with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and life membership for the furtherance of the Kerry Hill flock Book Society. The Kerry Hill breed was in the rare breeds but now has more than 200 members. A family spokesman said: “He will be greatly missed by his wife Rosina, two sons Eithyl and Allen and their partners, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.” His funeral was held on Saturday, January 31, at Guilsfield Church.
