THE family and friends of a Knighton teenager who died on New Year’s Eve have raised hundreds of pounds in his memory by taking on Wales’ highest mountain – in fancy dress.
Billy Price (Prosser) was 19 when he passed away on December 31, 2016. Five months on, his loved ones decided to climb Snowdon to raise funds for Papyrus, a charity that campaigns to prevent suicide in youths.
The walk was organised by Billy’s lifelong friend Chelsea Stuckey, who wanted to do something to remember Billy while raising money for the charity, as well as a memorial bench.
She was among the group of around 70 people who donned fancy dress costumes beginning with ‘B’ last weekend to walk to the top of Snowdon.
Some of the walkers camped in the area the night before while others caught a bus from Knighton at 6.30am on the day. The walk up Snowdon took two-and-a-half hours each way.
Billy’s mum Karen, dressed as a Bishop and took part in the walk with the rest of Billy’s family.
She said: “Thank you to Chelsea for organising the walk and everyone who took part, especially the younger people who had really wanted to do something in Billy’s memory.”
