ROSS Frame (right) scored a hat-trick in a match marred by referee Matthew Bridges.

Both clubs feared the worst when an already unpopular Bridges arrived at the Community Centre Field on Saturday.

The Broughton-based official proceeded to caution over 10 players in the first-half, before sending three off after the break.

Guils manager Mike Barton said: “It’s a real shame to be honest. It was an immense team display and I was delighted for Ross but here we are talking about another abysmal display by Bridges.

“The club plans to write a letter to the league because he went too far on the weekend and his self important style of refereeing ruined the game.”

Frame gave the Guils an early lead when he rounded goalkeeper Paul Evans on 12 minutes and completed his brace six minutes later.

However Dave Littleford suffered an unlikely rush of blood to the head on the stroke of half-time and found himself in no man’s land with Simon Smith capitalising to reduce arrears.

Bridges entered the limelight shortly after the interval with Richard Astley seeing red for a second caution, while Llangollen’s Simon Edwards soon joined him in receiving a second caution of his own.

However Emyr Roberts was afforded the benefit of the doubt from the over-zealous official when he handled in the area, with Simon Hulse stepping up to convert the penalty.

Guilsfield were not to be denied and Frame completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining, following a long clearance from defender Mike Sawtell.

Bridges was not to be denied his time in the spotlight though, and with minutes remaining sent-off Mark Davies to cause uproar on both benches.
