CAERSWS will hand a debut to former Port Vale defender Steve Rowland in their Welsh Cup fourth round clash at Bala Town on Saturday (2pm).

The 28-year-old boasts over 120 league appearances for Port Vale between 2001 and 2006, before switching to Southport.

Manager Mickey Evans said: “We had hoped Steve would make his debut against Bala Town last weekend, but as it is, it is very likely he will go straight into the squad for the Welsh Cup tie instead.

“He has been playing on and off for Gresford, but was limited due to work commitments,” said Evans. “That has been resolved now so we are looking forward to handing the lad his debut at Bala.”

Rowland’s arrival is a timely boost for the lowly Bluebirds, who this week parted company with midfielder Matthew Roberts.

The 24-year-old former Port Talbot Town and Aberystwyth Town player is rumoured to be en route to Macwhirter Welsh League side Goytre United.

“Matthew leaves with the best wishes from all at the club,” said Evans. “The move did not work out but that happens sometimes in football.”

Meanwhile midfielder Graham Jones and striker Mark Griffiths should shake off their niggling injuries for the trip to Maes Tegid.

Evans said: “It’s a big game for the club and all the lads want to get Caersws into the last eight.”
