A CAR was recovered from the sea after it had apparently broken its owner’s leg as it accidentally rolled down the beach.

Aled Thomas, manager at Anglesey-based Moduron Maethlu Motors Ltd, told how his team was called out on Sunday morning to Penmaenmawr beach to recover the Volkswagen Passat.

The recovery of the car – which had rolled into the water the previous day near the sailing club – took Mr Thomas’s team approximately four hours.

He said: “From what we were told, the gentleman who owns the car had gone there fishing and something had happened to the handbrake of the vehicle.

“It rolled down the beach and has caught him.

“He has been injured and from what we understand he has broken a leg."

Mr Thomas continued: “We got a call from the RAC early on Sunday morning to say the car had rolled into the sea and was trapped on some boulders.

“We got a recovery team of four lads together with a 4x4.

“When we got there it was submerged. We could just see the roof popping out above the water.

“We waited for the tide to go out so we could get to it but we realised that the car was actually going further out with he tide so one of us went in with waders and attached a winch line to stop it from going out.

“Once the tide had gone out we cleared away the big rocks, winched it carefully off the stony area, across to the sliproad and on to a recovery vehicle.

“The biggest concern was pollution. If the sump or the fuel tank had been compromised it would have been a mess.”

Speaking of the incident on Facebook, Emma Teare posted: “There was a 12 year old little girl inside the car when it went into the water.

“Thankfully my daughter was very brave and managed to get out of the car when it started to fill with water.”
