COMMUNITY spirit and local identity will be encouraged this weekend at the Expo 2001 exhibition.

Organisers, Penn and Tylers Green Residents Association, have invited more than 35 local groups, organisations and societies to publicise their activities and attract new members in the newly refurbished village hall, opened in January.

Sports organisations, political parties, churches, primary schools and even the Cats Protection League will be available to chat about their activities.

Jean Stidwell, chairman of Penn and Tylers Green Residents Association, said: "We want to encourage a strong sense of local identity and pride, particularly in the light of the many pressures and changes that face our community as we begin the new millennium."

She said: "It's important for people to be informed about what sort of groups they can get involved with in their area. Although it is in the Village Hall it is not exclusively for Tylers Green residents and everyone is welcome to come along."

Previous exhibitions held in 1995 and 1998 were very successful.

The event being held tomorrow is open between midday and 4pm at Tylers Green Village Hall, Church Road, Tylers Green.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be available.
