WELSH dairy farmers have agreed not to hold protests over milk prices during the Olympics.
More than 50 dairy farmers met at Welshpool Livestock Market on Monday morning and decided to postpone their protests ‘rather than alienate support for the cause’.
Dairy farmers in Powys have protested outside Morrisons supermarket in Welshpool, the Asda stall at the Royal Welsh Show and outside the entrance of dairy giant Muller and Wiseman Dairy in Market Drayton over recent weeks.
NFU Cymru and Farmers' For Action said milk producers in Wales and around the UK had both come to an agreement to suspend their campaign.
Dairy farmer Maurice Jones, of Court Calmore Farm, Llandyssil, near Montgomery, was at the meeting in Welshpool.
He said: "We've got the public on our side at the moment. We want their support to carry on, and we will carry on after the Olympics is over.”
