BANGOR City hero Les Davies has been named one of European football’s top players after he was named as a shock inclusion in the UEFA Best Player in Europe award.

The 27 year old fans favourite has made it onto the 32 man longlist, joining Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andrea Pirlo in the running for European football’s biggest individual honour.

The nomination caps an incredible week to remember for Les, following his heroics for the Citizens in their agonising Europa League defeat to Zimbru Chisinau and the birth of his third child on Sunday evening.

“I’m still pinching myself to be honest, it hasn’t sunk in yet,” he said.

“It’s a dream come true, I can’t believe that I’ve been nominated, particulalry at the age of 27 and still in the League of Wales.

City boss Nev Powell paid tribute to his star attacker, and said his nomination showcased the talent in Welsh domestic football

“It’s amazing. It’s great for Les, great for the club and great for Welsh football,” he said.
