A NUMBER of Sports and Football Academy students from Coleg Powys, Newtown, have dusted off their passports for a globetrotting trip to Barcelona.

During their visit the students visited to the Nou Camp stadium and were able to learn of the amount of sporting facilities around it, as well as a large museum housed at the stadium which is the home to all of Barcelona FC’s trophies as well as many other sporting artefacts.

The year 1 and 2 Football Academy and Fusion level 2 learners also got to experience participating in sport overseas as they played two football matches against other European teams from Spain and France – and won.

This winning streak continued as the students also had the chance to cheer on their tutor, Andrew Davies, who pounded the Spanish streets while taking part in the Barcelona marathon.

Andrew proved himself to be an impressive Welsh ambassador, completing the marathon in 2 hours and 25 minutes, and being the first British person to finish the race.

Kurtis Smith, a second year Football Academy student said: “The trip was a fantastic opportunity to experience different cultures and styles in football.”
