Llanfair Caereinion marks Powys Eisteddfod

LLANFAIR Caereinion will mark the coming of the Powys Eisteddfod to the town with an historic proclamation ceremony and grand concert.


The historic event on June 23 will begin with the procession from the Institute to the Gorsedd Stone Circle in Deri Woods at 1.30pm. There druids, bards and local dignitaries will be joined by children dancing and singing to announce the Llanfair Caereinion Powys Eisteddfod of 2013.
 

A colourful parade will then follow through the town and end at the Institute where refreshments and homemade cakes will be served.
 

In the evening a grand concert of well known TV Welsh artists and Blue Riband winners with Dai Jones, Llanilar, Seiriol Choir,  Aled Wyn Davies, Trebor Gwanas and Eirian Owen will be held at Llanfair Ceareinion Leisure Centre at 7.30pm.
The president of the evening is the well known auctioneer Gwynant Williams of Ross on Wye, who was born in Dolanog.
 

The parade will be led by Emyr Davies, President of Llanfair Ceareinion Powys Eisteddfod 2013 who hopes that local people will turn out to support the ceremony and enjoy the colourful parade through the town.


He said: “We welcome everyone to join us in this historic event which promises to be a wonderful celebration of music and culture that is synonymous with Montgomeryshire and Powys.
 

“The Powys Eisteddfod returning to Llanfair Caereinion is testament to the excellent support and hard work of a small, yet dedicated group of people who are ensuring that future generations can enjoy this cultural event which began over 100 years ago.”
 

Llanfair Ceareinion has been the setting for the Powys Eisteddfod many times including in1894, 1913, 1927, 1961, 1976, 1990 and 2000, and will take place at Llanfair Caereinion Leisure Centre on July 19 and 20 next year.
