The vandalised stand at Ponciau Park
VANDALS have attacked a football ground stand just hours after a police-led scheme was held to tidy it up.
Officers are now asking for the public to help catch the yobs who undid all the good work carried out by children at Ponciau Park.
The clean up project was organised by PCSO Sofia Iftikar, who was helped by a group of young people from the community.
They painted over graffiti and picked up litter around the football stand.
But the police say that just a few hours later a group of youths vandalised the good work by smashing bottles and littering as well as stamping wet paint on to a white concreted area.
PCSO Iftikar said: “This has obviously upset all of us due to the effort we put in. Anyone with information about who was responsible for the vandalism should get in contact with the police by telephoning 101.”
The ground is used by Rhos Aelwyd FC and club chairman Trefor Williams was outraged at the attack.
He said: “Everyone is disgusted about this. If an initiative by the police to improve the community is vandalised then what hope is there? But we are determined not to give in to the vandals.”
Cllr Paul Pemberton represents Ponciau ward on Wrexham Council and spoke out against the yobs.
“The group who got stuck in to tackle the graffiti and vandalism in the first place carried out a lot of hard work. I think that it was a good initiative. I certainly sympathise witih them and with the police.
“Seeing the vandalism afterwards must be very demoralising.
“I would ask anyone who knows anything about the attack to get in contact with the police as soon as they can.”
