RHYL ended their season on a high after lifting the Huws Gray League Cup following a 2-0 victory over Caersws.
Two injury time goals from Jimmy Gambino got Rhyl’s hands on the silverwear after a weather-affected showpiece, and Lilywhites boss Greg Strong said he was delighted to see his team receive their rewards after a busy campaign.
“It was fantastic, and I think it’s just rewards for the lads who have played some fantastic stuff this season,” he said.
“It would have been a travesty had we not come away with something to show for it.
"The first half was quite scrappy because of the weather conditions and they probably just edged it, but in the second half I asked the back four to sit on the half way line and keep them in their own half, and the lads did just that.
“He (Gambino) has been fantastic all season. He had a bit of a dip in form, which he admits himself, and had a spell on the bench, but he’s great to have around the team, he never misses training and always supports the lads when he’s not playing.”
Mike Pritchard and Ryan Williams both came closest in the second half for Rhyl, but in the 92nd minute with extra time looming, Pritchard swung in a right wing cross to super sub Gambino, who squeezed his header between the keeper and post.
Three minutes later he sealed it with the second, racing clear off the defence before firing in across goal.
