GREG STRONG is hopeful his Rhyl squad will stick together for another tilt at promotion next season after setting themselves up for the runners up spot in this season’s Huws Gray Alliance with a 2-1 win over strugglers Llanrhaeadr.
First half goals from Greg Strong and Mike Pritchard secured the points, leaving the Lilys third in the table with one match to play, two adrift of Buckley Town who beat Cefn Druids 1-0.
Victory over Rhos Aelwyd at the Belle Vue this weekend would see Rhyl take second spot, and Strong said his side still had a lot to play for, with hopes of another title challenge next term.
“We’ve still got a cup final, a semi final and second place in the league to play for, so we’ll keep going and sit down at the end of the season and look at everything,” he said.
“The lads aren’t stupid, they know they were thrown together as a group at the start of the season, and I think they’ll have learned from this experience. What they’ve achieved has been fantastic.
“I think if they stick together, they’ll have a lot to play for next season. Anything can happen in football, but one thing I know is that they love playing here and what we’re trying to do.
Caersws will be Rhyl’s opponents in next weekend’s Huws Gray Cup Final after beating Penrhyncoch 4-3 in their semi-final. The clubs will lock horns at Llandudno’s Maesdu Park on Saturday, April 28 in a 2.30pm kick off.
