Bob Jones, 60, of Trehelig, near Welshpool, was one of two people killed when a light aircraft crashed into Long Mountain on January 18.

Former RAF pilot Steve Carr, 55, from Ruthin, also died.

Father-of-two Mr Jones, a farmer who founded Mid Wales Airport when it was built on his land in the early 1990s, was described as a “genius of the skies” and a “wonderful man who loved flying”.

Mr Jones leaves behind his wife, Linda, sons, Chris and Dave, and his brother, John.

A Thanksgiving service to celebrate the life of Bob Jones will be held at St Mary’s Church in Welshpool on Saturday, February 11, at 1.30pm.

A strictly private funeral will take place earler in the day and a fly past will take place over Welshpool at 10.30am.

Donations, if desired, are to go towards either the Wales Air Ambulance or Cancer Research UK.
