Bangor City 2 Prestatyn Town 1
AS Prestatyn's Michael Parker scored the last ever Welsh Premier goal at City's old Farrar Road ground, it seemed somehow inevitable that the Seasiders would add another chapter to Welsh football history by netting the first at the new Nantporth Stadium.
And, after a tit-for-tat opening to the match, it took just 21 minutes to come.
Town player-manager Neil Gibson threaded the ball through to Parker who went one on one with City keeper Lee Idzi who got a touch to the shot and the ball rolled out for a corner.
From Ross Stephens' flag kick Paul O'Neill knocked the ball down and Gibson produced a clinical finish from 16 yards out.
Town had shipped five goals to City over the Christmas double header but in horrible weather conditions there was never going to be a repeat of that on Saturday although Bangor - spurred on by the vast majority of a partisan crowd of 701 - enjoyed most of the possession and it was no surprise when they levelled on 37 minutes.
Les Davies fed a sliderule pass down the left flank to Chris Roberts who took the ball to the byline before putting in a low cross which was swept home by Kyle Wilson.
Bangor bossed the second half - Davies went close from Sion Edwards' cross then a rare slip by Paul O'Neill allowed Wilson a chance but he lobbed over Town keeper Jon Hill Dunt.
Ross Stephens chipped a free kick into the top of the net with 50 minutes gone but City rarely looked in serious trouble.
The home support sensed a goal and it came on 56 minutes when the lively Wilson slipped the ball through to Davies whose shot on the turn gave keeper Dave Roberts - on for the injured Hill Dunt - no chance.
With the rain lashing down and temperatures dropping by the minute the playing surface held up well although Kyle Wilson slipped on the greasy pitch after rounding Roberts and shortly after the Prestatyn keeper produced a top class double stop to deny Chris Jones.
Town had a chance to level in injury time when Steve Rogers dragged the ball back for Stephens whose shot went over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
The Seasiders were due at Newtown in the League Cup yesterday (Tuesday) and on Friday entertain The New Saints at Bastion Gardens, kick off 7.30pm.
Town's reserve fixture at Denbigh Town was called off due to a frozen Central Park pitch. They are due to face Llanrwst United in a home Premier Reserve League fixture on Tuesday February 14.
