CORWEN 0
MOLD ALEX 0
A POINT was Corwen’s reward for a spirited showing at home to Wrexham Area League Premier Division leaders Mold Alex.
But it was very nearly three points for Corwen, who were denied a late goal by an assistant referee’s flag.
A heavy pitch made play difficult throughout the game, which contributed to a lack of chances for either side.
The high-flying visitors did go close to taking an early lead, but striker Luke Reece sent his header over the crossbar.
That apart, a very strong defensive display from the home side frustrated Mold, who rarely troubled Nathan Aldridge, between the posts for Corwen.
At the other end, Elfyn Roberts’ charges had a few chances of their own, with Elystan Hughes looking to grab the headlines again.
Hughes ran into the Mold box in the second half and opted to shoot rather than play in a teammate, and he sent his shot blazing over the crossbar.
Corwen continued to press and they were able to force Mold keeper Dan Cameron into a good save soon after.
In the closing stages, Corwen had a chance to nick all three points.
Tom Hughes crossed into the path of Elfyn Roberts and Andrew Roberts, but the assistant referee raised his flag before the latter Roberts could get his shot away.
Meanwhile, it was a frustrating weekend for Llangollen Town’s two sides.
Due to unplayable pitches, both the first team and reserve fixtures were postponed on Saturday.
Llangollen’s first team were due to entertain Venture in the Premier Division, while Llangollen Town Reserves were scheduled to travel to high-flying Mold Alex Reserves in the Reserves / Colts Division.
Another Wrexham Area League cancellation saw Bala Town Reserves’ match with Overton Reserves fall by the wayside.
Corwen Reserves’ venture to Venture Reserves ended up honours even courtesy of the 1-1 scoreline.
Ruthin Colts caused a bit of a stir with their excellent 2-0 triumph at second-placed Argoed United Reserves.
