RHYL’S promotion hopes took another jolt with a costly 4-2 home defeat against Liverpool University at St Asaph that drops them from third to sixth place in the table.
The return of former skipper Dave Bradley tightened Rhyl’s defence but they still conceded two goals in either half in a worrying follow-up to their 5-1 crash at Knutsford the previous week.
Goalscorer Dave Kelly said Rhyl’s attack again failed to exploit their many chances and they paid dearly for lacking a clinical finish in front of goal.
Casey Dunn netted Rhyl’s other goal but they will now be without key pair Chris Hardy and Keiron Minton for this Saturday’s tough return derby date at Colwyn Bay where they will be on a hat-trick of defeats.
RHYL LADIES visited Dysynni over the weekend for a double-header of fixtures, with both the First and Second teams taking part in high-scoring matches.
The firsts went three goals down in the first ten minutes as the hosts made a whirlwind start, but kept their spirits up to go in 4-2 down at the break. The second half saw a much improved performance, but counter-punching Dysynni stayed in the game to win 8-5, with the on-form Jess Heywood netting a hat-trick of Rhyl goals.
The Seconds meanwhile put on a superb performance to win 5-1, with player of the match Becca Hilton in particularly sparkling form.
